How to keep yellowjackets away from your picnic

Summertime is picnic time! There's nothing like a meal outdoors at the park or the beach with family and friends.

The best picnics take a little bit of planning. In addition to the all-important food and beverages, follow this packing list of essentials for the perfect picnic:

  1. Basket
  2. Cooler
  3. Blanket or tablecloth
  4. Napkins, paper towels and wet wipes
  5. Plates and cups
  6. Utensils (don't forget serving utensils if you have salads)
  7. Cutting board (also useful as a level surface for drinks)
  8. Zipper-lock bags
  9. Garbage bags
  10. Insect control

Number 10, of course, is critical! No amount of preparation for your picnic can save it if yellowjackets invade. These aggressive pests will go after deli meat, chicken, fruit, jam, dressings, and any sweet beverages... in other words, most things that you'd pack for a picnic.

That's of course where we come in. For your next picnic, make sure you pack:

Yellowjacket Repellent DecoShield®: Set this on a table or hang it near your picnic spot. DecoShield® keeps yellowjackets away with all-natural essential oils. It protects a 300-square-foot area and is safe to use around food.

Yellowjacket Repellent GoClip®: Make sure each person in your party is outfitted with the yellowjacket version of our GoClip® personal repellent. It attaches to clothing and, like the DecoShield®, uses essential oils to ward off picnic pests.

Disposable Yellowjacket Trap: While you're pushing these insects away, you might as well pull them toward a trap that will keep them contained for good. Our Disposable Yellowjacket Trap comes complete with attractant and just needs water to activate. Hang it in a tree or bush about 20-30 feet away from your food.
