Thanksgiving is one of our favorite times of year at RESCUE!.
Although we rarely have any more "slow seasons", Thanksgiving week gives our company enough of a breather to reflect on the past year and honor our customer, vendor and employee relationships with heartfelt gratitude.
We also appreciate the historical significance of the Thanksgiving holiday in America. At our annual Harvest Party, employees are treated to excerpts of Thanksgiving proclamations from our Founding Fathers and former United States Presidents.
The first Thanksgiving Day celebrated under the U.S. Constitution took place in the first year of George Washington's presidency. Washington issued a proclamation on November 26, 1789, recognizing it as a "day of public thanksgiving and prayer".
On October 3, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln made Thanksgiving a nationwide holiday, in the midst of the Civil War.
In 1939, President Franklin D. Roosevelt moved the Thanksgiving holiday to the third Thursday of November -- although it was changed two years later to the last Thursday in November.
No matter what the circumstances, good things happen when we focus on gratitude... it's a part of our company culture.
